Now more than ever, nails are ‘In’. With nails being an important part of your look, don’t forget to include what’s hot and trending for this fall.

First we have the classic Reds… from warmer to cooler shades, red is always a great staple nail color. From the sophisticated wines to the fun bright and even glittery enamels, you’re sure to find that perfect shade of red for you.

Next we have the Jewel Tones… we’re talking fall now, so it’s time to trade in those warm weather pastels for bolder, richer colors like jewel toned blues, dark purples and emeralds to really make your nails stand out.

Shine is back! Metallics, from silvers to gold and a wide range of colors with glitter infused. So don’t be afraid to get luxe with the nails.

Shades of Gray… you can find a shade to go with almost anything … we’ll just call it the new neutral. Choose a lighter gray for a more feminine look to a dark rich gray for a more sophisticated look. Whatever shade you choose, grays are in this fall.

Nude is the new Black… classic and neutral, you can never go wrong with the nudes, you have your pick from lighter shades like the sands to darker rich browns. You’ll have no problem finding that perfect nude polish.

We love the summer, going to the beach, swimming in the pool… but unfortunately our hair doesn’t. No worries, there are some simple steps we can do to protect our hair from the damage that summer activities can produce.

First of all, all you lovely locks out there already know that shampooing everyday not only is unhealthy for your hair but strips natural oils that are meant to protect our hair. Stripping these oils can signal our bodies to replace what was lost and this can create extra oil production from the scalp – which then can leave your hair looking well… greasy or dirty. Everybody is different so gauge this off what works best for your hair/scalp type. Alternating days for shampooing is ideal for most, while skipping an extra day might be suited for others.

Remember to always follow with the appropriate conditioner – this is a must if you want your tresses to stay healthy looking. Out of the shower and after blot drying your hair, it’s a good idea to protect with either a moisture balm/mask or heat protectant if you’re going to style with heat, i.e. blow dryer, flatiron, curling wand etc… you can then follow up with a finishing spray that include nourishing botanicals to help protect the hair.

With salt, sun and chlorine being enemies and damaging to our hair, it’s important to protect our hair with either a spray suncsreen or hair products that help with keeping the damage from chlorine and salt at bay. Below are some products along with some tips on how we can avoid summer time damage to our hair.

Aveda Sun Care Protective Hair Veil by Aveda is a great product that not only gives us UV protection but can last up to 16 hours.

L’Oreal EverPure UV Protect Spray with Rosemary Mint is another great product with UVA/UVB filters and is sulfate free which helps from color fading.

Fortunately there are several products to help with protecting from chlorine damage. Try a line of shampoos and conditioners that are made to help with protecting your hair from chlorine as well as the sea.

Malibu C has a line designed specifically for swimmers hair, with their Superior Swimmers shampoo, conditioner and miracle repair, you can nourish, strengthen and protect hair from the buildup and discoloration that chlorine and sea water can cause.

Always rinse hair thoroughly with water after a swim in the pool or sea to remove chlorine and salt residue so that it’s not sitting on the hair – this can dry out the hair and make it brittle.

Give hair coloring a break in summer as water activities along with the sun will only fade as well as change the color.

Finally, a hat is the perfect accessory to protect from the suns’ rays. Simply altering your hair routine to protect it from the summer elements will let you enjoy your summer activities while keeping your hair healthy.

Want to add a bit of glamour to your look? A good place to start is with your hair. Adding glamour to your look with curls are not only easy to do but will add a finishing touch to your glamorous look.

With these simple steps you will achieve those glam curls with ease.

Things you will need:

Large Barrel Curling Iron, preferably a minimum of 1 inch or larger

Bobby Pins

Strong Hold Hairspray

Lightweight shine spray

Starting with the front of your hair, wrap a 2 inch section of hair around the curling iron and hold for approximately 2 to 4 seconds. Release the curling iron and bobby pin the curl in place to your head.

Continue and repeat this step moving toward the back until all sections are pinned in curls. Repeat the same process for the sides.

Once all hair is pinned, mist the entire head with a maximum hold hairspray and let hair cool in curls for approximately 20 to 25 minutes.

After curls have set, remove bobby pins and let hair fall naturally. Spritz with a lightweight shine spray and gently move fingers through the hair to soften and shape.

Once your curls are positioned how you like them, spray again (Lightly) with maximum hold spray.

Now it’s time to enjoy those glamour curls.

There has been a lot of talk about the Clarisonic brushes in the past year or so. I’ve read many reviews and since I’m always looking to improve my skin routine, I decided to try it out for myself. After a bit of research, I decided to get the Clarisonic Mia, which happens to be the first edition, from a website; where it happened to be less expensive than other places and got good reviews as well. Waiting with anticipation and excitement, I received my Clarisonic about three days later. In the box came an information brochure; explaining everything I needed to know about the brush, the Clarisonic moisturizer, a charger, and the Clarisonic brush itself. When I tried it out for the first time, my skin felt cleaner than it ever had before! I immediately started noticing the results. After only one week my skin was glowing! I do have to say, after about three days of using the Clarisonic twice a day, although my T-zone was improving and glowing, the brush head was a bit too rough for the areas around my mouth and cheeks where my skin is a bit drier and more sensitive. So, I switched to only using the brush once a day and only going over my problem area. The Clarisonic does sell other types of brush heads for different types of skin. I would recommend getting the SENSITIVE brush head if your skin gets a little dry while using the Clarisonic. I read that it would take around a month to see optimal results and for your skin to adjust. Currently I’m finishing up week two with pretty good results. My problem areas are still in their purging stage but overall I definitely see an improvement.

Till next time and Thanks! For visiting The Urban Teen!

Let’s face it, being a teen is hard enough without having to worry about skin problems. Unfortunately, these conditions peak in the teenage years and continue well into our adulthood. To help improve the likelihood of healthy skin, a skin plan containing the following four tips should be followed.

Personal Hygiene

As we teenagers get older and our hormone levels increase, personal hygiene becomes a very important factor in having clear skin. You should wash your face at least once a day, but no more than twice. This helps remove oil that can clog pores and cause acne. If you wash your face more than twice a day, your skin creates extra oil to help restore what is being removed. By only washing the face occasionally, the body is able to find a happy middle ground that will result in clearer skin.

Acne Treatments

Acne is the most common skin condition in the world and peaks during our teenage years thanks to our overactive glands. While it is impossible to completely eliminate acne, the problem can be treated with several over-the-counter products.

The most common treatment is to use an acne face wash. These facial cleansers should be used twice a day, both in the morning and at night. There are dozens of different products to choose from, and you should be sure to purchase the correct cleanser for your skin type. Depending on the product, it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for the acne wash to start working. It’s also important to note that not all facial cleansers are the same. Since everyone’s skin is different, some brands work better for different people.

Moisturizing Skin

Once the skin has been washed, it may feel tight and dry. To fix this, a good moisturizer is needed. Just as acne cleansers should be purchased based on skin type, the same is true for moisturizer. Those who have dry skin will need a moisturizer that prevents skin from flaking off while those who have oily skin will need one that protects against the extra oil being produced.

Many moisturizers also come with additional benefits, such as protecting against aging or helping to restore elasticity. While us teenagers may not worry about either of these now, our skin will thank us later for using these products.

Protecting Skin From Sun Damage

Using sunscreen may not always be fun, but it helps prevent against several unsightly skin conditions. The most well know is sunspots, which often appear as a dark scar-like dots on our face. These spots can be hard to cover with makeup and even harder to remove. Sun damage also causes premature wrinkles, uneven skin tone, scaly patches, cancerous moles, and much more.

For those who are still against using sunscreen despite the dangers, consider switching to a brand of makeup or moisturizer that contains at least a SPF level of 15. This will help keep skin looking healthy and clear well into our adulthood.

Nail art is the most prominent fashion and beauty phenomenon of 2012. Ladies have always gotten manicures as part of their regular beauty regimens. Having pretty hands has always been a symbol of high status, and since manicures are so affordable, nearly every person is able to get one. Over the past year, manicures have gone from being something people did to pamper themselves to being expressions for tiny pieces of art.

Nail art trace its origins to Japan. Japanese street fashion is known for being colorful and cartoonish, in the best possible way. Clothing is not supposed to reflect reality. It’s all about having fun and being colorful. It comes as no surprise that women who dress this way would see their nails as potential spaces for even more color.

Nail art became popular in the United States when people started using social networking websites like Pinterest and Tumblr to post pictures of how things they see and do in their normal, daily lives. These websites are unique among social networking sites because they make it easy and fun for users to share photos without much text. Once it became common for people to communicate solely by images, people began to share their ideas for fashion and crafting. Nail art is a natural outgrowth of this process. It is a relatively inexpensive way to express one’s creativity, and since nails need to be repainted frequently, people who enjoy nail art have a constant source of new photos.

Nail art received its first official endorsement when Katy Perry arrived at her Part of Me premiere with little three-dimensional charms attached to her nails. Each finger was decorated with a different miniature item that represented movies, such as popcorn and film reels. The Olympics placed nail art on a global stage. The female athletes were unable to wear jewelry when they competed, so they expressed themselves by painting their nails. Many of the women showed their patriotism by putting their nations’ flags on their fingertips. Some of them alternated between flags, the Olympic rings and imagery having to do with the sports they played. This trend was reminiscent of the way cheerleaders decorate their faces with temporary tattoos depicting their schools’ mascots. It was a cute way of showing team spirit that did not hamper the Olympians’ athleticism.

Nail art does not always have to be complex or hard to do. People who paint their own nails start with simple stripes. Anyone who has mastered French manicures can paint checked and crisscrossed patterns after a bit of practice. So for those of you who are unable to paint your own nails, you can still participate in this fun trend. Companies like Sally Hansen and Sephora make nail stickers that cover the whole nail with pre-printed designs. These stickers look like nail polish, and they last just as long. Tiny stickers in shapes like hearts and stars can be placed on nails in unique arrangements as well.

So when it comes to your nails, go for it, have fun and express your style.

No matter what your hair naturally looks like, there are several products you can use and at-home remedies to help your hair stay shiny and to reduce frizz. Check out the following list of tricks to help get shiny hair.

Change Your Shampoo/Conditioner

Sometimes dull hair can be caused by using low-quality shampoos and conditioners. If you are not satisfied with the way your hair products make you feel, try switching to a different brand or formula. One great thing to look for is products labeled “smooth and silky” or those with a similar label. It may take you a while to find the perfect product, but you will usually instantly feel a difference in the way your hair feels.

Use Cool Water

Instead of washing and rinsing your hair with hot water, try turning down the temperature so you are washing your hair with cool water. This helps to prevent frizz and dryness.

Deep Condition Once per Week

If you are willing to pay a little bit extra for shiny hair, try investing in a good deep conditioner and use it once per week. Deep conditioning will help to moisturize your hair and to keep it smooth, shiny, and healthy. Deep conditioning can also help with split ends to reduce frizz.

Mayonnaise Treatment

A lot of people who don’t use a deep conditioner try a cheap at-home remedy using mayonnaise. With this treatment, it is very important that you use real mayonnaise and not an imitation. Simply coat your hair in mayonnaise, use a comb to get rid of any clumps, cover your hair with a towel or plastic cap, and leave in for at least three hours. Once your hair is done soaking, wash it out with regular shampoo, and use conditioner afterward. You can also use this treatment over-night if you don’t have very much free time. Only use the mayonnaise treatment twice per month at the most.

Trim the Ends

Another thing you can do to help reduce frizz and make your hair look shinier is to get a trim. Often times hair looks dull because of frizzy split ends. A simple trim can get rid of these split ends without making a noticeable difference in the length of your hair.
